A man suspected of driving impaired was arrested after a crash that killed one woman, and left her 10-year-old son critically injured on Saturday, Washington State Patrol said.

Twenty-year-old Manoj Siwakoti of Kent faces vehicular homicide and assault charges. He is believed to have been under the influence of drugs or narcotics, WSP spokesman Trooper Chris Webb said.

Siwakoti ran a red light, and crashed into the woman's car at SR-509 and SR-518 shortly after 3:00 p.m., WSP said.

The crash killed 41-year-old Lilliam Portillo, and critically injured her son who was rushed to Harborview Medical Center.

On Sunday, hospital officials said the boy was released after being reported in stable condition.

Til Siwakoti, Manoj's father, said his son suffers from mental health issues, and takes medication for treatment.
