Auburn, CA : Young women killed in I-80 crash were from Sacramento on Thursday afternoon, July 17, 2014
The names of the two women killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Auburn have been released by the Placer County Sheriff’s Coroner.
They were identified as Shapre Nina Monique Nichols, 23, and Antoinette Danielle Powell, 22, both of Sacramento.
The crash occurred about noon Thursday as a car was westbound in the fast lane on Interstate 80, west of Nevada Street. The driver for some reason lost control of the vehicle, causing it to swerve across all westbound traffic lanes, said Officer David Martinez of the California Highway Patrol.
Martinez said the vehicle traveled onto the shoulder, striking an embankment and light pole. It then overturned and came to rest on its wheels in the traffic lanes.
The driver and left rear passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, Martinez said.
A passenger in the front seat, identified by the CHP as 24-year-old Robinisha Briggs of Sacramento, was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with minor injuries.
