Mom of fatal wreck victim held on to grandchildren

Amber V. Roussel, 31, was headed to Houston with her husband Monday afternoon when the right side of the car she was in was hit by the bumper of a truck, which ultimately caused Roussel to die.

Roussel's mom, Melba Braud, said Monday night her daughter was not picking up her cell phone so she called her son-in-law's phone and all he told her was "she is gone."
Braud said she then held on to Roussel's children.

Beaumont Police said the driver of a white pick-up truck lost control of his vehicle in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10. The driver of the truck was driving erratically causing the truck to go airborne and crash into the concrete divider. The front part of the truck was then on top of the divider on I-10.
A westbound vehicle then struck the front of the truck causing the "brush guard" style bumper of the truck to fly off and hit a third vehicle traveling westbound.
Roussel, from Louisiana, was in the third vehicle with her husband, police reported. Roussel died almost immediately and Roussel's husband was treated for minor injuries.

Police reported the original driver of the white truck was transported to St. Elizabeth's hospital for a blood draw, which police say is mandatory in any fatality crash. The truck driver did not complain of any injuries. Both lanes of traffic on I-10 were reopened at 10:30 p.m. Monday.
