CHARLOTTE, NC : 1 dead after car crashes into child development center in Charlotte on Thursday, 3rd December, 2020

A man is dead after a car crashed into a child development center in Charlotte Thursday night.
The incident happened just after 8 p.m. at the Smart Kids’ Child Development Center on East WT Harris Boulevard. Police say the driver of the vehicle, identified Friday as 26-year-old Harry Lee Winfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say they believe Winfield’s Honda was traveling northwest on W.T. Harris at a high rate of speed when he lost control, ran off the right side of the road and struck the building. No one was in the center at the time of the crash, there were no other vehicles involved in the collision, and there were no passengers in the Honda.
Police say Winfield was not wearing a seat belt and that the excessive speed is a contributing factor to the crash.
