Carbondale, IL : A Sparta man died after a two-vehicle crash on Thursday, June 8, 2017

A Sparta man died after a two-vehicle crash at about 1:07 p.m. Thursday in rural Vergennes, according to Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

Lindle Pickering, 76, of Sparta was driving a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on Illinois 4 when a 2014 Isuzu box truck traveling eastbound turned left onto Mudline Road, in front of the motorcycle. Pickering was ejected from the motorcycle, suffering life-threatening injuries. Civilians at the scene performed CPR on Pickering, until paramedics arrived and transported him to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The driver of the truck was Christopher Robinson, 37, of Hartford. He was cited for failure to yield turning left. An accident reconstruction officer with Jackson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash. The sheriff's office, Jackson County Ambulance Service, Vergennes Volunteer Fire Department and Ava Police and Fire Department responded to the crash.
