Denver, CO : Two die in U.S. 50 crash west of Canon City on Tuesday 23rd October 2018

Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in a crash that left two people dead Tuesday night, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The three-vehicle crash happened at about 8 p.m. on Eight Mile Hill, west of Cañon City, prompting the closure of U.S. 50 in both directions.

Trooper Eric Zachareas said in a press release that a 2010 Mazda Tribute driven by Jacob Gagnard, 30, of Cañon City was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 near milepost 273 when it entered the eastbound lane and struck the left side of a 2011 Nissan Juke. The Mazda continued westbound in the eastbound lane for a short distance before its left front struck the left front of a 2017 Ford Explorer.

The Nissan's driver, Deborah Fuentes, 58, of Cañon City was wearing her seat belt and suffered no injuries.

The Ford's driver, Marin Dobos, 75, of Glendale, Ariz., and his front seat passenger, Maria Dobos, 70, also from Arizona, were wearing their seat belts, but Marin suffered fatal injuries, while Maria suffered minor injuries. The back seat passenger, only identified as Pauline, was not wearing her seat belt and suffered fatal injuries.
