Elko, NV : Reno man dead after collision on I-80 near Battle Mountain on Monday, Oct 26, 2015

An 80-year-old man from Reno has died after he was hit while he was in the middle of Interstate 80 about eight miles east of Battle Mountain, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded at about 6:30 a.m. Monday to reports of a pedestrian who was hit by a car on I-80, NHP said in a statement.

Preliminary reports indicate that the pedestrian, identified as Charles Hubach of Reno, was either walking or standing in the middle of the westbound travel lanes, when a Ford Flex hit him, according to the statement.

Hubach succumbed to his injuries at the scene, NHP said. The driver of the Ford immediately pulled over to the shoulder and did not suffer any injuries.

There was also a broken down car on the eastbound side of I-80 in the area of the collision that belonged to Hubach, according to NHP.
