Walton, KS : Wichitan identified as man killed in Harvey County accident on May 20th 2014
Wichitan Brian Kelly was identified Wednesday by authorities as the 56-year-old man who was killed Tuesday in a rollover accident on U.S. 50 in Harvey County.
Kelly was killed when his pickup overturned about 2:30 p.m. in a ditch as he swerved in an attempt to avoid a car near Walton that had crossed over the center line, Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton said.
He was driving west near East Lake Road when a eastbound Acura struck the pickup’s rear passenger door. Kelly died at the scene after being trapped in the pickup.
Kelly’s 22-year-old son, who was a passenger, escaped through a window and sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Acura – a 31-year-old Wamego woman – was not injured.
The investigation is continuing into why the Acura crossed over into Kelly’s lane.
“We’re still working on that,” Walton said.
He said there was no indication that alcohol was involved, but a blood sample was taken at the scene from the woman.
