TOWN AND COUNTRY, AL : Ballwin man dies in crash on eastbound Highway 40 in Town and Country on Tuesday, January, 23rd 2018
A driver who cut off a tractor-trailer in rush-hour traffic Tuesday morning died in a fiery crash when the truck rammed into his car, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.
The driver who was killed was identified Tuesday night as Ryan C. Stoll, 35, of Ballwin.
Cpl. Juston Wheetley initially reported that two people had died in the crash, but later said the erroneous report was based on debris inside the charred wreckage that at first resembled a person. It turns out Stoll was alone in the car, Wheetley said.
Three people, including a 1-year-old, were taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of injuries characterized as minor, a fire official said.

The 8 a.m. crash was on eastbound Highway 40 (Interstate 64) east of Mason Road and west of Interstate 270.
The eastbound lanes were closed until about noon while police investigated the crash and crews came in to remove the wreckage. During the four-hour shutdown, traffic was backed up for miles, and some cars inched along on a frontage road.
Aerial images showed a tractor-trailer with heavy damage to the cab and several other vehicles with extensive damage. Black smoke could be seen billowing from the site immediately after the crash.
Wheetley said six vehicles in all were damaged. Some struck a guardrail or other cars while trying to avoid the truck. Sara Dayley, a spokeswoman with the West County EMS and Fire Protection District, said the vehicles involved ranged from being heavily damaged to sustaining only minor damage as if in a fender-bender.
