Torrance, CA : 1 person killed, 1 injured in crash at Torrance intersection on Friday, 28th June 2019

One man was killed and another person was seriously injured Tuesday in a multivehicle crash that shut down a major Torrance intersection for much of the day, police said.

Police arrested two men during their investigation, apparently for leaving the scene of a crash without rendering aid to the injured.

The crash at Hawthorne and Del Amo boulevards occurred about 10:30 a.m., Torrance police Sgt. Ronald Harris said. A man apparently ejected from a sport utility vehicle was pronounced dead in the street.The intersection was immediately shut down and remained closed throughout the day.

According to police, the crash occurred as a 2004 Chevrolet SUV with four occupants drove recklessly south on Hawthorne Boulevard toward Del Amo Boulevard at high speed. The SUV sideswiped another car before going out of control and careening over the center divider into the northbound lanes.

Two vehicles heading north crashed into the SUV, causing it to roll over and throw one of the occupants into the street. The driver and another passenger in the SUV immediately ran. One passenger remained trapped inside, Harris said.
