BRIDGEPORT, CT : One driver has died and two more people were struck by a motorist on Thursday, August 10, 2017

One driver has died, and two more people were struck by a motorist attempting to flee from police in Bridgeport Thursday afternoon.

According to Connecticut State Police, a Trooper conducted a motor vehicle stop on Interstate 95 just before 1:00 p.m. The driver stopped, but as the Trooper approached the car the driver fled from the scene, and exited the highway onto South Avenue.

The Trooper then observed the suspect, driving a black Infiniti, continued from South Avenue onto Railroad Avenue. State Police said the driver struck another vehicle at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Iranistan Avenue, which they described as a blue Toyota. The driver of the Toyota, who has not yet been identified, was fatally injured.

After crashing into the Toyota, Troopers said the driver then continued to flee, and struck two pedestrians, one possibly on a bicycle. Troopers attended to the victims at the scene. Both pedestrians suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect attempted to flee on foot after striking the two pedestrians. A short time later, a State Police canine unit responded to the scene and located the suspect in a nearby home.

The suspect was taken into custody by State Police. His identity and charges have not been released.

The Connecticut State Police accident reconstruction team is assisting Bridgeport police in the crash investigation. Around 5:15 p.m., Railroad Avenue at Iranistan Avenue was reopened.
