DANVERS, MA : Danvers man killed in Water Street motorcycle crash on Friday, October 6, 2017
Police confirm that a man who was riding a motorcycle that collided with another vehicle Friday night died from his injuries.
Andre Veatch, 20, of Danvers was killed on Water Street, in the Danversport neighborhood, just before 9 p.m., after he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a car traveling in the opposite direction, said police Chief Patrick Ambrose.
No one else was injured in the crash.
Lyons Ambulance took Veatch to Beverly Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Ambrose said.
The crash took place in the vicinity of the entrance to Dunkin' Donuts at 128 Water St., and the entrance to two marinas, just to the north of the bridge over the Waters River.
Due to the severity of the crash, a state police reconstruction team was called to investigate, Ambrose said. That evening, the road was closed and traffic was diverted at South Liberty Street to the south and Endicott Street to the north during the investigation. Peabody police assisted with traffic.
Preliminary findings, Ambrose said, show Veatch's motorcycle was traveling north on Water Street when he somehow lost control of his bike and hit a car traveling south.
"The arriving officers found a motorcyclist down on the street," Ambrose said. Police and firefighters provided medical assistance to Veatch at the scene. Ambrose could not say how long after Veatch was transported to the hospital that he died from his injuries.
Ambrose said police were conducting the final part of the investigation, but as of Monday, the driver of the car was not facing any charges.
Veatch was the son of Cynthia and Michael Howard Veatch, according to an obituary from the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home. He grew up in Danvers, attended public schools and graduated from Essex Technical High in 2016, where he studied carpentry. He then went to work for Groom Construction in Salem.
"A vibrant soul, Andre will be remembered for his sense of humor, his loud truck and his love for little kids who gravitated towards him. His zest for life will live on in us always, he will be truly and deeply missed," read his obituary.
The obituary says he is survived by his parents, two siblings, his girlfriend, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, 3 p.m., in the Free Christian Church, 31 Elm St., Andover. Burial, which will be private, will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Danvers. Visiting hours at the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., are Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
