Circleville, OH : A single-vehicle fiery crash on Saturday, July 1, 2017
A Darby Township woman lost her life in a single-vehicle fiery crash that happened around 3 p.m. Saturday on London Road about a mile south of Derby in Darby Township.
According to Corporal Stacey Eitel with the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office, Alesha M. McKenzie, 37, of London Road, Orient, was driving a 2006 Hyundai SUV south on London Road when she drove off the left side of the road hitting a culvert and going airborne approximately 30 feet before crashing into shrubs and hitting a utility pole, snapping it in two. The SUV then rolled one-and-a-half times before coming to a rest and bursting into flames.
Eitel said McKenzie was pinned in the vehicle and neighbors and passersby tried to put out the fire with extinguishers, but the flames were too intense.
Pickaway County Coroner John Ellis pronounced McKenzie dead at the scene.
The Tri County Joint Fire and Sterling Joint Ambulance were at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office.
