A car flew off into the woods after a collision Tuesday morning along Highway 18, officials said.
Two people sustained moderate injuries in the crash. One of them was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated, according to Eastside Fire & Rescue.
Troopers and emergency crews responded to the scene, near the Highway 18 interchange with Interstate 90, at about 8:15 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash.
The highway is blocked at the scene and could be for some time, said Trooper Rick Johnson of the Washington State Patrol. A two-mile backup had formed by 9:15 a.m.
Up to three vehicles may have been involved. Tow vehicles are enroute. There were conflicting reports on whether a semi truck was involved in the crash.
The circumstances leading up to the accident remain under investigation.
