BRIDGEPORT, CT : Bay State woman charged in fatal Bridgeport crash on Monday, March 6th 2017
A Bay State woman has been charged with the crash last year on Interstate 95 that killed a 24-year-old local woman.
Livis Rodriguez, 27, of Lawrence, MA, surrendered to state police Monday after being told there was a warrant for her arrest.
She was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and failure to maintain a safe lane change and was released after posting $10,000 bond.
State police said Rodriguez is accused of causing the crash that killed Shameal Jackson of Connecticut Avenue.
Police said Rodriguez and her family were traveling home in two cars northbound on I-95 from New York City when her mother, who was traveling in the lead car, began experiencing car mechanical problems about 5:30 p.m.
The mother called Rodriguez’s sister, who was in the car with Rodriguez, and told them to follow her into the emergency lane, police said.
Rodriguez began to drive from the center to the right lane when police said her sister yelled, “Livis be careful.” They then collided with the right front side of Jackson’s car which was traveling in the right lane.
Police said after the impact Jackson’s car went across all three lanes and hit the center cement barrier. They said Rodriguez pulled over to see if the other driver was all right but by that time other people had already stopped and were attempting to get Jackson out of the car.
Jackson, who did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital where police said she died from multiple injuries.
