Louisville, KY : One dead, four others injured in I-71 crash in Oldham County on Thursday evening July 24th 2014
One person was killed and four others were injured in an accident in the southbound lands on Interstate 71 Thursday evening.
A van carrying six passengers collided with a semi truck on I-71 at approximately 9:05 p.m., according to South Oldham Asst. Fire Chief Kevin Parker. One person was airlifted and four others were transported by ambulances to nearby hospitals.
Traffic was shut down in the southbound lands on I-71 at Exit 28 for several hours. Emergency crews detoured traffic from Exit 28 onto Highway 42 to the I-265 Gene Snyder Expressway to pick up I-71 South.
Crews from Oldham County Police, Oldham County EMS, Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and area fire agencies responded to the scene.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. We will update this story with more information as it comes into the newsroom.
