JANESVILLE, WI : West Court Street reopens after fatal crash on May, Wednesday 3rd 2017
Janesville police closed part of West Court Street for nearly four hours Wednesday afternoon while investigating a fatal one-vehicle crash.
The crash was reported around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on West Court Street between Sunset Drive and Austin Road, according to the Rock County Communications Center.
Janesville police Sgt. Todd Kleisner said a large silver vehicle was traveling westbound on West Court Street at a high rate of speed when it drifted off the road. The driver overcorrected, crossed the center line, entered the ditch and struck a tree, he said.
There were three people in the car at the time of the accident, both the driver and a passenger were ejected, Kleisner said.
The driver was transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center with one of the passengers, Janesville. The other passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, Kleisner said.
Kleisner said speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.
Police announced that the road was reopened about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
