Haile Plantation ,FL :Car owned by Chris Doering crashes on Sunday ,July 19th 2015

An imported luxury sedan registered to University of Florida football hall of famer Chris Doering was involved in a crash in Haile Plantation Sunday, but the Florida Highway Patrol has yet to identify the man who was behind the wheel or his passenger.

Sunday at 8:34 p.m., witnesses called 911 to report that a white 2014 Mercedes E350 convertible had left the roadway at the intersection of Southwest 94th Street and 30th Avenue and struck a patch of bushes. The driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not been determined, tried to free the vehicle by spinning the wheels in the debris, but one of the tires caught fire, witnesses said.

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office and Alachua County Fire Rescue were called to the scene a few minutes later and found no one injured, so deputies and firefighters turned over the scene to FHP. A trooper arrived at the scene and witnesses told him that someone named “Chris” had been behind the wheel.

The Mercedes is registered to 42-year-old Christopher Paul Doering of Haile Plantation.

Doering, who played football for the Gators when they won three Southeastern Conference championships in 1993, 1994 and as team captain in 1995, did not immediately return a phone call on Wednesday afternoon.
