Flemington, NJ : A 60-year-old Michael Gormley man died in a motor vehicle crash at Lacey Township On Thursday, July 14th, 2016

A 60-year-old Lacey Township man died Thursday after his car was struck head-on by an SUV heading in the opposite directions, police said.

At 7 a.m. on Thursday, Toms River police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Whitesville Road at Medjay Lane.

Michael Gormley, 60, of the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey Township, was traveling north on Whitesville Road in his 2010 Chevy Malibu when a 2000 Nissan XTR - being operated by Jack Kennedy Jr, 34, of Jackson – was

traveling south in the opposite direction, police said.

Kennedy's vehicle crossed over the center yellow line and struck Gormley's vehicle head on, Toms River Police Department spokesman Ralph Stocco said in a Friday morning press release.

The driver of a 2015 Kia – identified as Dawn Kaychok, 45, of Manchester – was traveling north behind Gormley and tried to avoid the crash, but was unable to do so and was later taken to Community Medical Center for

treatment of minor injuries, Stocco said.

Gormley died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash, Stocco said, while Kennedy is being treated for his injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Township.

Pleasant Plains and Silverton Fire Companies responded in order to extricate the victims from their vehicles, and the Toms River and Silverton EMS Units transported the injured to area hospitals.

The crash investigation was still underway as of Friday morning, under the direction of Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Terry Warren, who is being assisted by Ocean County Prosecutors Investigators Mike Proto and Brad

Frank.

Members of the Ocean County Sheriff's Department C.S.I. Division were also at the scene.

Whitesville Road was closed in both directions between Riverwood Drive and Cox Cro Road for several hours Thursday morning as a result of the crash. And that detour caused delays on Route 9 in both directions through the area.
