Shadow Hills, CA : 2 dead, 6 injured in violent 3-car crash in Sunland area Friday afternoon, August 12, 2016
Authorities have identified two men killed Friday afternoon in a violent three-car pileup in Shadow Hills that injured six more motorists, leaving two adults and two boys in critical condition.
Geghard Karami, 19, and Argisht Minasian, 31, were identified as the two men killed in the 3:30 p.m. crash in the 9200 block of La Tuna Canyon Road, said Lt. David Smith of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
It was unclear where either man lived, he said.
The collision occurred on a blind bend of La Tuna Canyon Road, according to Capt. Beverly Lewis, commander of the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division, when one or more vehicles tried to pass in a two-way left-turn lane.
A Honda Civic traveling westbound struck a Lexus that was heading in the opposite direction, according to Los Angeles police. The Honda driver lost control of the car, which slammed into another Honda Civic that was also traveling westbound.
Lewis said two witnesses reported seeing a gray Honda and a Lexus driving on the wrong side of the road before the crash.
Several passengers were trapped in two of the wrecked cars and had to be freed by the Jaws of Life by more than two dozen firefighters.
Two men in the first Honda, later revealed to by Karami and Minasian, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Two men and two boys were transported to a nearby hospital, where they were in critical condition.
