Westville, IN : Bicyclist killed in collision with car on U.S. 421 near Purdue North Central on Tuesday night, July 26, 2016
A bicyclist riding on U.S. 421 near Purdue North Central was killed late Tuesday after being struck by a silver Mazda, police said.
LaPorte County sheriff's deputies were dispatched at 9:15 p.m. to the crash scene and found the bicyclist dead upon arrival, according to a news release.
The preliminary investigation revealed a silver Mazda driven by a 24-year-old Michigan City man north on U.S. 421 at County Road 200 South struck a person riding a bicycle. Based on a witness statement and evidence at the scene, police believe the cyclist was in the roadway at the time of the collision. The area is dark and there are no streetlights, the release said.
The name of the bicyclist is not being released pending notification of family.
Sheriff's deputies were assisted at the scene by Westville Police and Fire departments as well as the LaPorte County coroner's office.
