Baltimore, MD : One person injured in a head-on wreck on Solomons Island Road in Harwood on Friday, February 17, 2017

A head-on wreck on Solomons Island Road in Harwood on Friday sent one patient to the hospital and tied up rush hour traffic for more than an hour, a county fire official said

The accident happened about 3:55 p.m. when a Mini Cooper and an SUV collided near the intersection of Solomons Island Road (Route 2) and Harwood Drive.

The driver of the Mini Cooper, a 17-year-old female, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious, but not believed to be life-threatening injuries. She was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter from a landing spot at Southern High School

Solomons Island Road was closed in both directions for about an hour and 15 minutes, fire department spokesman Capt. Russ Davies said.
