NEW PORT RICHEY, FL : Brandon couple killed in New Port Richey motorcycle crash on Saturday, October, 14th 2017

A Brandon man and woman died Saturday after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Steven Gerena, 50, who was driving the 2015 Harley-Davidson, and Trudy Gerena, 53, were going east on State Road 54 approaching Mitchell Ranch Road around 5:30 p.m., troopers said. They failed to negotiate a bend in the road and hit the driver's side of a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu that was at a stop sign on Mitchell Ranch at the intersection with SR 54.

The motorcycle riders died at the scene of the crash, according to the FHP. Neither was wearing a helmet.

Dimitri Tagaropoulos, 27, of Holiday, the driver and sole occupant of the Malibu, was taken to Florida Hospital North Pinellas with serious injuries.

Alcohol did not play a role in the crash, troopers said, and charges were not expected.
