Blair, NE : Tekamah resident killed in U.S. 75 crash on Tuesday, December, 26th 2017
A Tekamah man was killed Tuesday morning in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 75 after an SUV struck a tree and an outbuilding.
Washington County sheriff's deputies and Blair Fire and Rescue responded to the crash at about 10:30 a.m. on Highway 75 near County Road 16.
Detective Sgt. Brian Beckman said the vehicle was traveling southbound at normal speed when it left the road on the east side near River Wilds Golf Course. The SUV traveled through a corn field, struck a tree, which caused it to spin and hit an outbuilding on property owned by Phil and Florence Larsen, 13412 CR 16.
The sheriff's office identified the driver as Richard Barnett, 66, of rural Tekamah. Family has been notified.
Firefighters had to extricate the Barnett, who was pinned in the vehicle. The passenger side of the vehicle was unreachable due to a wall in the building.
Barnett was pronounced dead at the scene. Beckman said investigators suspect a medical condition caused the crash.
Washington County Attorney Scott Vander Schaaf has been notified. An autopsy has also been ordered.
The accident remains under investigation.
