Tacoma, WA : Man arraigned after fatal wreck near Enumclaw on Thursday, October 6th, 2016
An 18-year-old Covington man was arraigned Thursday after a single-car wreck early Sunday east of Enumclaw killed one of his passengers.
Bryson Stubbles faces one count of vehicular homicide and three counts of vehicular assault in Pierce County Superior Court. Commissioner Meagan Foley ordered him held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
According to court documents and the Washington State Patrol:
Stubbles was driving with four other people on state Route 410 between Enumclaw and Greenwater about 2:30 a.m. when the 1990 Honda Accord left the roadway.
The crash killed Paco Frees, 18, of Kent.
Stubbles was seriously injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, as were two of his passengers. The fourth passenger was taken to Tacoma General Hospital.
One passenger, a 20-year-old Spanaway man, broke his wrist, femur, back and pelvis in the collision. Another, an 18-year-old Puyallup man broke his femur and a bone in his hand, and had lacerations to his head and feet. A third passenger, a 16-year-old girl, suffered multiple injuries, including a possibly fractured pelvis.
A State Patrol detective interviewed Stubbles at Harborview on Monday. He told the detective he’d drank a can of malt liquor and three shots of rum after having smoked marijuana earlier in the day.
Stubbles said he was driving 25 to 30 mph and was having a conversation with a couple of passengers and the car drifted to the right.
He said he overcorrected to the left, hit a large pothole and lost control of the car, which hit a tree.
