Elizabeth, NJ : One killed and two others were injured in a collision at Elizabeth On Saturday, July 9th, 2016

The driver of a tractor-trailer cab was shot and wounded by police during a pursuit that ended early Saturday when the cab collided with a car, killing one person and injuring two others in that vehicle, authorities said.

Danny Clyde Burnam, 57, who also is known as Danny Clyde Williams and has addresses in California and Colorado, was charged with aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide and reckless aggravated assault. His bail

was set at $2 million, and it wasn’t known if he has retained an attorney.

The chase started early Saturday after Burnam was involved in an accident with a car in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

An off-duty Union County police officer saw Burnam driving erratically away from the accident scene and tried unsuccessfully to get him to stop, eventually firing one round from his service weapon that missed Burnam,

authorities said. Burnam then struck several parked and moving vehicles as he sped away.

A short time later, Burnam drove through a barricade that police had set up a few streets away. Two Elizabeth officers fired at Burnam, striking him at least once and leaving him injured, but he continued driving. The officers

were not hurt in the incident, and their names have not been released.

About a half-mile away, Burnam hit another vehicle, killing a man and injuring two others. Their names have not been released, pending notification of relatives. Further details on the conditions of the two injured people were

not disclosed.

The truck cab eventually crashed into the facade of a building. Burnam was being treated at a hospital for injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening, but details were not disclosed.

Burnam struck and damaged about a dozen vehicles during the course of the incident, authorities said.
County authorities are investigating the fatal accident and the police response to this incident. Such investigations are standard procedure when an officer fires a weapon.
