Green Valley, AZ : Man dies in head-on crash with Sahuarita police officer on Thursday, December 8th, 2016

The driver of a vehicle that crossed the center line, striking a Sahuarita Police officer head-on Thursday morning, has died.Anthony Zangara, 75, died shortly before 6 p.m., according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Zangara was southbound in a Scion hatchback when his car veered over the center line on South Camino Loma Alta near Old Spanish Trail around 6:30 a.m., according to the PCSD. Zangara struck a northbound patrol vehicle driven by Sahuarita Police Lt. Matthew McGlone. McGlone, who was on his way to work, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

What caused Zangara to veer into incoming traffic is still under investigation.
