Waltham, MA : Man critical, dog missing after five-car crash in Waltham on Thursday morning, December 18, 2014

A 49-year-old Illinois man was in critical condition after a five-car crash on Trapelo Road Thursday morning, according to police, Wicked Local reported Thursday. Police and firefighters responded to the intersection of Trapelo Road and Smith Street for the collision at about 10:45 a.m., police said. The Illinois man was driving a Jeep east on Trapelo when it struck a Kia van near Smith Street. The van then hit three other cars. The man may have had a medical problem while he was driving and lost control, police said. He was in critical condition at Lahey Clinic in Burlington as of late Thursday afternoon. Firefighters performed CPR on him at the crash scene, police said. The three other drivers, a 40-year-old Brockton man, a 42-year-old Gloucester woman and a 47-year-old Lynn man, all suffered minor injuries, police said. Two of them were taken to area hospitals with neck and back pain. The Jeep sustained major rear-end damage and caused substantial rear-end damage to the Kia, police said. Waltham Police crash investigators are investigating the cause. The ramp at Exit 28A of I-95 southbound was closed for a short time for the investigation, according to State Police.
