Granger,WA : Three injured in car crashes on October, Sunday 1st 2017

People from Mabton, Grandview and Las Vegas were injured in two lower Yakima Valley car crashes Sunday.

The second crash, a rollover at about 9:30 p.m. on Interstate 82 near here, sent Sahyan Hipolito-Medina, 17, of Grandview to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

At 12:30 p.m. yesterday, Harborview said she was in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Hipolito-Medina was a passenger in a gray 1988 Ford Mustang 2-door.

That car was driven by Manuel J. Aviles, 18, of Mabton. He drove onto the right shoulder, lost control and rolled the vehicle, the Washington State Patrol said.

Aviles also was injured. He was taken by ambulance to Toppenish Community Hospital. Neither drugs nor alcohol was involved the crash, the Patrol said, but Hipolito-Medina was not wearing a seat belt.

The first crash, involving four vehicles, occurred just after noon in Yakima, milepost 34, on Interstate 82.

The injured person was Karla Arce, 19, of Las Vegas, Nev. She was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Arce was taken by ambulance to Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital in Yakima.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred when Gorge L. Lara-Sanchez, 21, of Grandview lost control of his car. It crossed the median and struck the vehicle in which Arce was riding.

The Patrol said alcohol or drugs were involved. Lara-Sanchez will be facing DUI charges.

Sheila A. Arce, 24, of Las Vegas was driving a Silver 1999 Hyundai Tiburon Coupe.

Sheila and Karla were wearing proper safety restraints.

Lara-Sanchez, who was wearing his seat belt, was driving a red Nissan Maxima 4-door. It was totaled, impounded by the same tow company.

The drivers of the two other vehicles were not injured. Their cars were struck by rock debris from the collision. They were able to drive them away.
