New Albany, MS : Trooper narrowly escapes injury in I-22 crash on Saturday night, July 16, 2016
A Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper narrowly escaped injury Saturday night when his vehicle was struck by a distracted driver.
The trooper was aiding a stranded pedestrian on I-22, near New Albany, at approximately 8:30 p.m., when the crash occurred.
The trooper was standing at the rear of his vehicle when he noticed a truck veering off the road and driving towards him. The trooper ran out of the way as the F250 Ford collided into his patrol unit.
The driver of the vehicle was cited for careless driving and failing to move over. He admitted to being on his cell phone.
There were only minor injuries reported from the crash.
