Charlotte, NC : Man was dead in a crash in Mecklenburg County who was being chased by Cabarrus County sheriff's deputies on Saturday evening October 4th 2014

Police have identified a man killed in a crash in Mecklenburg County who was being chased by Cabarrus County sheriff's deputies. Police told local media that 22-year-old Jashavius Everick Williams drove away from deputies after a traffic stop around 5 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 485. Officers said Williams drove his Jaguar XJ-6 at speeds of up to 90 mph during the chase. They say Williams lost control of the car on a curve of another road and the car struck a tree. Deputies had stopped the car for a fake license tag in Cabarrus County and they said the driver got out, but then got back into the car and drove away toward Charlotte. No one else was in the car. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating the crash. The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office is conducting an internal investigation.
