Fort Lauderdale, FL : Miramar man killed in Pembroke Pines crash on Sunday, February 12, 2017

A 63-year-old man was killed Sunday after the car he was driving smashed into a utility pole in the 800 block of North University Drive, police said.

Everard W. Nelson of Miramar was at the wheel of a 2004 Saturn and traveling south on University Drive at about 12:45 a.m. when he apparently lost control and hit the pole on the west side of the roadway, officers said.

Nelson was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Police said they were advised at 8:54 a.m. Sunday that he had died.

A passenger in the car, Ouida Robinson, 62, was also taken to the hospital by Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue, police said. She was treated and released.
