Lake Havasu City, AZ : Downed burro causes accident late Wednesday on Wednesday, January 4th 2017
Lake Havasu City, Arizona
A patient was transported to the hospital for minor injuries late Wednesday when their car reportedly struck a downed burro laying in the roadway.
The accident occurred on State Route 95 near Price Drive at approximately 10:30 p.m. The vehicle received minor damage.
Shortly afterwards the Lake Havasu City Police Department issued a warning via the Lake Havasu City PD app to caution drivers traveling in the area.
The accident occurred weeks after police were dispatched to the north side of town to shoo a herd of burros away from the roadway near North Palo Verde Avenue.
Today’s News-Herald previously reported there is approximately 5,000 wild burros living in western Arizona, including 1,800 in the Black Mountain Herd Management Area north of Lake Havasu City. Encroachment is expected to get worse in the coming years if an effective method of herd management isn’t found, said Mohave County Supervisor Gary Watson.
