Mandan, N.D : 51-year-old man killed in a motorcycle crash in Mandan early Monday, May 9, 2016

A 51-year-old Mandan man was killed in a motorcycle crash early Monday in Mandan.

Duane Buechler was operating a 2003 American Texas chopper westbound on Old Red Trail at about 12:45 a.m.Monday when the motorcycle crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck a curb, according to a report from North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The motorcycle then jumped the curb and struck a light pole, while the motorcyclist was thrown from the bike, according to the report. The crash occurred at the intersection of Nygren Drive Northwest.

The operator, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol, which was assisted at the scene by the Mandan Police Department, Morton County Sheriff’s Department, and Metro Ambulance.
