Cody, WY : One driver dead, one more injured in crash south of Worland on U.S. Route 20 Monday afternoon on September 22, 2014
Two vehicles crashed south of Worland on Monday, killing the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu, WHP Sgt. David Wagener said.
Karen Davis died when a Chevrolet Corvette veered into her Malibu head-on about 2 p.m. Monday at mile post 160 on US 20, five miles south of Worland, Wagener said.
Davis, 61, of Worland was wearing a seat belt when her car was hit by Ricky Capellen, 54, of Riverton after he drove into the southbound lane with his Corvette.
Controlled substance use and driver inattention are being investigated as contributing factors, Wagener said.
Capellen was not wearing a seat belt and sustained injuries that included a broken leg. He was initially transported to the Washakie Medical Center in Worland, but has since been transferred to St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings.
“He was transported to Billings to get surgery on his leg,” WHP Lt. Karl Germain said, adding that charges against Capellen are pending.
This was the fifth fatality this year in division G. WHP divides the state into 18 divisions. Worland is included in division G.
A total of 111 people have died on Wyoming highways this year, WHP Sgt. David Wagener said.
