Joliet, IL : Motorist killed in crash with off-duty police officer in Joliet on on Thursday, November 13, 2014
Joliet police say a 24-year-old man has been killed in a crash with an off-duty officer.
The (Joliet) Herald-News reports firefighters had to extricate Rashad Stinson of Joliet from his car by cutting into its roof after the head-on crash on Thursday. The Will County Coroner's Office says he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputy Chief Ed Gregory says the 38-year-old sergeant had surgery for fractures in his foot and ankle. His name hasn't been released.
Police Chief Brian Benton says it's unclear what caused the crash because of the nature of the damage. He says there were no witnesses.
Benton says a blood alcohol test was done on the officer and there was no sign of impairment. Police are waiting for a toxicology report on Stinson from the coroner's office.
