Ashtabula, OH : Two high-speed crashes reported in North Kingsville on Wednesday August 31, 2016
One man was flown to a hospital Wednesday evening after crashing his motorcycle and sustaining a serious head injury.
North Kingsville Fire Chief Kevin Hubbard said the crash was reported just before 7 p.m. along Lake Road, near Village Green Golf Course and Sunset Park.
Responders couldn't speak with the middle-aged rider at the scene, and the only determinable cause as of Wednesday night was the rider's speed and failure to control the vehicle, Hubbard said. The man was not wearing a helmet.
Two medical helicopters reportedly denied requests because of inclement weather before a third eventually arrived on-scene.
In a separate incident, a man reportedly driving at excessive speeds Wednesday night along Harmon Road crashed his vehicle into trees, mailboxes and a telephone pole.
Hubbard said the crash was reported at about 8 p.m., near the intersection of Harmon Road and East Tamkrist Trail.
The man complained of injuring his back and ribs in the crash, but the injuries did not appear life-threatening, Hubbard said. He was transported by ambulance to Conneaut Medical Center.
There were no reports of loss of utility service Wednesday night, though responders had difficulty removing the car from the scene — "the only thing holding the pole up is the car," Hubbard said Wednesday.
It was later towed away, after Illuminating Company crews took measures to secure the pole, which is planned for replacement.
Crews were on-scene for about two-and-a-half hours Wednesday, Hubbard said.
Hubbard said it's unclear if alcohol was a factor in either crash. Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing investigations into both.
