Butte, MT : Deer Lodge man dies of injuries in Homestake Pass crash on Friday, September 10, 2016

A 56-year-old Deer Lodge man has died of injuries suffered when his car rear-ended a semitractor hauling a flatbed trailer as it traveled slowly down Homestake Pass about 10 miles east of Butte.

The Montana Highway Patrol tells The Montana Standard that the man died Saturday night at a Missoula hospital of injuries suffered in the crash at about 6:25 a.m. Friday. His name has not been released.

Trooper James Beck says the driver of the semi reported the man may have fallen asleep because he saw the car swerving.

The patrol says the car was traveling about 75 mph when it struck the back of the trailer, which was traveling about 25 mph due to the grade. The car was wedged under the trailer up to its windshield and the driver had to be extricated.
