Holly Hill, FL : One women dead and man injured in a fatal crash on Wednesday October 1st 2014
Holly Hill Police gave FOX 35 red light camera surveillance video of a crash from Wednesday afternoon. In the video, wanted criminal Christopher Hammonds' Mitsubishi is seen cutting off a truck and a trailer, then jumps across the median and hits a pick up truck.
Just seconds before the crash, you see someone pushing a stroller across the street with a young child walking next to it. Police say Hammonds was trying to get away from police who had him cornered in the Luigi's Pizza parking lot on Ridgewood Avenue in Holly Hill.
"Our officers moved in and exited the vehicle to make contact with him, at that time he fled the parking lot disregarding their orders to stop almost striking one of the officers," says Police Chief Stephen Aldrich.
Aldrich explains why police were trying to arrest Hammonds in the first place, saying, "He had multiple warrants that included drug charges and aggravated assault on law enforcement and carrying a concealed weapon."
Police say Hammonds' friend Brandi Machel was in the car with Hammonds. She died Wednesday night, hours after the crash. Hammonds and the driver of the truck were taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
