GASTONIA, NC : Five people seriously injured in head-on collision on Union Road near Dawnwood Road, near the Gastonia Airport on Sunday, 28th July 2019

North Carolina state troopers are investigating after five people were seriously injured in a head-on collision in Gastonia Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. on Union Road near Dawnwood Road, near the Gastonia Airport. Officials said a car crossed the center line and hit the other car with a family of four inside.

The Union Road Fire Department said five people were taken to the hospital; two were transported by MedCenter Air.

Neighbors told Channel 9 it is not uncommon to see crashes on this stretch of road.
