Upperco, MD : Two people injured after a collision sent a truck crashing into a house in Upperco on Thursday morning, January 29, 2015

Two people were injured after a car and a box truck crashed, causing the truck to strike a vacant house on Hanover Pike in Upperco Thursday, Baltimore County police said.

Police and fire crews were called shortly after 10 a.m. to Hanover Pike and near Emory Road. The truck was headed north and the car was traveling south on Hanover Pike, but it remains unclear what caused them to collide.

Police said the 16-foor long truck then struck the side of the house, plowing about 15 feet into the home.

The drivers of the truck and the car, a Honda Prelude, were trapped until rescue crews could free them. Both were flown by state police helicopter to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center for serious injuries, police said.

The Baltimore County Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue Team responded to shore up the home. County building inspectors will determine whether the home should be declared unsafe.

Hazmat crews also responded to remove the fuel from the vehicle.

The county's crash team continues to investigate the crash. Hanover Pike was shut down in both directions until after 2 p.m. Thursday.
