CAVE JUNCTION, OR : One man died and a Medford man was injured in a head-in crash on February, Thursday 8th 2018
One man died and a Medford man was injured in a head-in crash Thursday afternoon on Highway 199 north of Cave Junction, authorities said.
The Oregon State Police’s preliminary investigation showed that a Chevrolet van driven by Joseph Pygman, 46, of Medford, was southbound near milepost 25 when, for unknown reasons it crossed into the northbound lane and struck a Honda SUV head-on.
The male driver of the Honda, who was not identified, was air-lifted to a trauma center where he was pronounced dead, according to an OSP.
OSP Sgt. Jeff Proulx said the agency will release further details about the victim after he is positively identified and next of kin are notified.
Pygman was taken by ambulance to Asante’s Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass with non-life threatening injuries, the OSP said. Pygman was listed this morning in fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
A third car became involved in the wreck when a white Mercedes driven by Sang Coa Tran, 37, of Crescent City, Calif., crashed into the rear of Pygman’s van, the OSP reported. Tran was uninjured, police said.
