Hopkins County, KY : 22-year-old USI student dead, five others injured in a car accident in Hopkins County on Sunday morning, March 8, 2015
The University of Southern Indiana confirms that a student in the College of Nursing and Health Professions was killed in a weekend accident in Hopkins County.
Kentucky State Police say 22-year old Alyssa Wagner of Jasper was headed north on the Pennyrile Parkway Sunday morning when her vehicle left the road and hit an overpass.
Hopkins County Coroner Dennis Mayfield pronounced Wagner dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
Passengers in the vehicle included 22-year-old Lauren Cessna of Ogden, IL, 23-year-old Kristen Hostetter of Bloomfield, IN, and 23-year-old Jennah Banks of Rockport, IN. The women were treated for their injuries and released from the hospital.
Officials at USI say Hostetter and Banks were also nursing/health profession students at the university.
Two other passengers remain hospitalized. 24-year-old Jarod Daming of Newburgh, IN was flown to St. Mary's in Evansville and 23-year-old Malcolm Webb of Rockport, IN was flown to Deaconess. No word on their conditions.
Troopers say their investigation into the wreck is ongoing.
