Tampa, FL : Man dies in crash on State Road 60 in Tampa on Wednesday night, July 30, 2014
A 75-year-old man was killed when he was thrown from a car Wednesday night in a crash on State Road 60, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened about 9:46 p.m. at the intersection with 78th Street, troopers said. Alfredo Carrasco Morales, of Tampa, was a passenger in the back of a Toyota Corolla headed west that stopped to turn left onto 78th Street.
The car turned in front of a Toyota Camry that was headed east and the two vehicles collided, troopers said. The impact caused the Corolla to spin. Morales, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the car onto the road, troopers said. He was later taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died.
The Corolla's driver, Nancy Numia Bong Ortiz, 71, and another passenger, Carmen Castro Velasquez, 68, both of Tampa, were hospitalized. Ortiz was in serious condition; Velasquez critical, troopers said.
The Camry's driver, Kenneth R. Whitehead, 26, of Tampa, was taken to the hospital in serious condition, troopers said. The crash remained under investigation.
