Sunnyside, WA : 5 injured in wrong-way crash with semi trailer near Sunnyside early Wednesday morning, March 29, 2017

Five people were injured in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 82 about 2 miles east of Sunnyside early Wednesday morning.

Washington State Patrol troopers said Luis A. Torres, 24, of Yakima was eastbound in the westbound lanes about 2:40 a.m. when the Ford Escape he was driving hit the trailer of a westbound Freightliner semi tractor.

Torres and four occupants in the car were taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital. They were Yakima residents Graciela Torres, 27, and three children, ages 1 to 4. Their conditions were not available.

The semi driver — Steven M. Light, 27, of Yakima — was not injured. A patrol news release said Light was the only one wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Charges are pending, the news release said.
