Hernando ,FL : 5 killed, 2 injured in Citrus County crash ON Monday Morning ,July 27th 2015

Five people were killed and two others were injured Monday morning after a crash involving a pickup and a box truck in Citrus County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers were called around 10:30 a.m. to the intersection of Citrus Way and Ponce De Leon Boulevard in Hernando.

Investigators determined that the box truck was heading south on Citrus Way when the driver failed to stop at the intersection of State Road 700, which is controlled by stop signs and flashing red stop lights, officials said.

As the box truck continued traveling into the intersection, it collided with a 2006 Chevrolet pickup towing a utility trailer that was westbound on State Road 700.

After the impact, the Chevy pickup caught fire and burned intensely. Five occupants of the pickup suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash. Two occupants of the box truck suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to area hospitals.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating the crash.
