A man was rushed to a hospital and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing into a tree Tuesday evening in Mokelumne Hill, the California Highway Patrol said.
Jack Dean, 21, was driving a 2000 Mazda Protégé south on Jesus Maria Road just north of Kerstan Lane about 7:30 p.m. when his car drifted to the right, left the roadway and hit a tree, the Highway Patrol said.
Dean was not wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred and sustained major injuries, officers said. He was flown to a Modesto hospital for treatment, authorities said.
Alcohol was determined to be a factor in the crash, the Highway Patrol said.
