Yuma, AZ : Three people injured in a motor vehicle collision on Avenue D and County 18th on Monday night, May 16, 2016

Firefighters from the Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision Monday night at County 18th and Avenue D which injured three people, including a woman who was six months pregnant.

According to the Capt. Javier Hernandez, firefighters responded to the location at about 9:43 p.m. and upon their arrival found two vehicles with severe damage and three injured patients.

Hernandez said that one of the vehicles, a Nissan Versa, had rolled over onto its side in a wheat field. The only occupant of the vehicle, he added, was a 27-year-old female who was six months pregnant and complaining of pain to the back of her head.

The other vehicle, a Honda Accord, had two occupants, a 25-year-old female who was complaining of abdominal pain, and the passenger, a 31-year-old male, who was complaining of shoulder pain.

All three patients were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center in stable condition. One patient was taken via Somerton/Cocopah fire ambulance, while the other two were transported via San Luis fire ambulance and Rural/Metro ambulance.

One of the vehicles had been traveling south on Avenue D and failed to stop at the intersection, causing it to collide with the other vehicle, which was traveling east on Avenue D and had the right of way. The speed and impact of the collision caused one of the vehicles to roll over.

The accident is under investigation by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office.
