New Castle, PA : Ellwood City man charged with leaving accident on Wednesday, July 5, 2017
An Ellwood City man is accused of drunk driving and allegedly leaving the scene of a pickup truck versus motorcycle accident.
State police on Wednesday filed charges against Stanley Frank Powell, 51, of 501 Lyndhurst Circle in connection with the collision that occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Portersville Road in Wayne Township.
A criminal complaint filed by the state police does not specify whether Powell was driving the pickup truck or the motorcycle. Nor does it indicate whether there were any injuries in the accident.
According to the complaint, the other driver, Chester Smiley, told police he was driving east on Portersville Road out of Ellport Borough and while going around a curve, Powell was driving across the double yellow lines and as in his lane of travel. She said that after the collision, Powell continued driving east on Portersville Road and did not stop. Powell turned himself in to police June 18, He teold police he was driving home from a Beaver Falls tavern and that he had three drinks there. He said he did not stop after the accident because he was scared and nervous, according to the complaint.
Powell is charged with accidents involving death or personal injury, accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or personal property, disregarding traffic lane, careless driving, failure to stop and give information and render aid and failure to notify police of accident and damage to vehicle.
He will be sent a summons to appear in court.
