Jacksonville, FL : Man with girl on Lap crashes into Backery outlet at 5511 New Kings Road on Tuesday night, March 10, 2015

Sgt. Gregg Mattson with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told First Coast News that officers got the call about 9:40 p.m.

The investigation so far has revealed that a man was driving with two underage girls in a sedan. One of the girls was in the man’s lap, Mattson told FCN. The driver’s identity has not been released.

The man then lost control of the car and smashed through the front windows of the business.

Mattson said the vehicle traveled approximately 150 feet before impact was made.

On the inside, one crew member said bakery products were scattered everywhere and fuel was spilling out of the sedan. Cleanup crews on the scene told FCN they received a call for help around 1 a.m. They worked through the night to board up the front of the store.

Mattson said the man and girls ran away from the crash initially. The man later returned and is cooperating with investigators.

He is expected to be ticketed for reckless driving.

The location of the girls remains unknown, Mattson said.

He said the group was goofing around in the car prior to the crash.

A worker at the bakery was hopeful it would be open for business Wednesday, but said it depends on if he can get the computer system repaired.

It’s unclear who owns the car.
